Which Cheese Pairs well with our Traditional or Gluten Free Crackers?

At Mette is Baking we are often asked for recommendations about which types of cheese pair well with either our traditional or gluten free crackers. To be honest, we think all cheeses work well with our crackers, but we do have some favourite cheeses (and dips!) which we think pair perfectly.

Bursting with flavour and full of healthy seeds, our crackers are handcrafted and made fresh to order with only the finest quality, locally soured ingredients free from preservatives, additives and colours.

Whether you are devouring our gluten free crackers or traditional crackers, you can expect a taste that is very similar – light and crisp with a delectable crunch. Plus, Mette is Baking crackers are deliberately made as bite sized portions – just right for a good-sized slice of cheese or serving of dip allowing you to taste the blend of textures and flavours.

Brie

Brie is a soft, creamy cheese with a delicate rind. Its smooth, buttery texture compliments our gluten free crackers and traditional crackers very well as Brie has a mild, slightly earthy flavour, which is only enhanced by the natural crunch of our seeded crackers.

Manchego

Made from sheep’s milk, Manchego, a semi hard cheese, is a Spanish cheese that has a distinct balanced flavour with a slightly salty finish and a slightly crumbly texture. The richness of Manchego, with its savoury taste is wonderfully contrasted with our seeded gluten free and traditional crackers.

Gouda

A semi-hard cheese, Gouda has a rich, caramel flavour with a dense and springy texture. Aged Gouda has a more intense flavour compared to its younger counterpart – Young Gouda which has a milder taste. Aged Gouda is characterised by a nutty flavour, whereas Young Gouda has a more of a creamy, sweet taste. Both varieties of Gouda enhance the flavours of our gluten free and traditional Nordic inspired crackers in their own unique way.

Gruyere

With a slightly sweet and nutty flavour, Gruyere has a creamy, firm texture. It is a Swiss cheese that is known for its smooth, melting quality and is the perfect cheese for fondues. With its own distinct taste, Gruyere is not an overpowering tasting cheese and therefore, offers a wonderful contrast to our crisp, light and crunchy gluten free and traditional crackers.

Dips

Mette is Baking gluten free and traditional crackers also work well with dips – from rich hummus, to tangy yoghurt dips and everything in between. We especially enjoy creating delicious dips using Mette is Baking’s range of Dip Mixes or adding these spice mixes to dips to help enhance flavours.

We have created our Dip Mixes to be simply mixed through natural yoghurt, sour cream or plant-based alternative to create a dip that is full of flavour and is an ideal addition to a grazing platter or cheeseboard while complimenting our multi-award-winning Nordic crackers.

Available in four delicious flavour combinations including:

  • Scandi Summer - combines lemon myrtle and pepper with warming spices and has a fresh, citrus flavour.

  • Pikant - features sweet paprika and ground red chilli carefully combined with comforting spices.

  • Hygge Mix – brings a savoury flavour to the table thanks to cumin and coriander.

  • Viking Herbs – offers a crisp, citrus flavour thanks to dill, parsley and chives.

Our Dip Mixes can also be used to compliment other dips for something extra special - here are our top tips, simply add 1 tablespoon of your chosen Dip Mix and stir well.

  • Chickpea hummus – add 1 tablespoon of either Scandi Summer, Pikant, Hygge Mix or Viking Herbs.

  • Beetroot hummus – add 1 tablespoon of Hygge Mix.

  • Guacamole – add 1 tablespoon of Hygge Mix or Pikant

  • Capsicum and feta dip – add 1 tablespoon of Pikant

  • Sweet potato dip – add 1 tablespoon of Viking Herbs.

  • Baba Ganoush – add 1 tablespoon of either Scandi Summer, Pikant, Hygge Mix or Viking Herbs.
