I recently had the chance to sit down with Chris and chat about the inspiration behind their business, their passion for supporting local producers and of course, how Mette is Baking’s Nordic crackers have found their way into the Dinner Twist Marketplace and onto tables across the state. Join me in conversation with Chris, plus Chris shares a delicious recipe that you can create at home, perfect to serve alongside Mette is Baking crackers!

Mette - Thank you Chris for joining me today, it’s so wonderful we can sit down together and chat all things food, I can learn more about Dinner Twist and how you support Western Australian producers and families. I’d love to know more about the story behind Dinner Twist and what inspired you and My to create this fantastic meal box business and online Marketplace.

Chris - Thank you Mette. Since the day we met, My and I agreed on two life goals, live abroad and start our own business. A couple of years later we relocated to Australia and we kept mulling over what business to start. After a trip back to Sweden with our first born, we came across the meal kit concept and saw first-hand the joy it brought to busy families who struggled around meal time. That coupled with a frustration of the supermarket offering was the start of Dinner Twist!

Mette - I love that! I love how you saw there was something that was lacking in the Perth market and you both brought an idea, from across the other side of the world, here to life and made it your own. Since you’ve started, there’s been quite a few meal box delivery services come into play too - what makes Dinner Twist unique compared to other meal kit providers in Perth and beyond?

Chris - It’s pretty simple, we believe the convenience of a meal kit should come without the expense of your quality, cleanliness of ingredients or excessive packaging. We work with suppliers that share our ethos and we only provide produce that we happily consume ourselves.

Mette - Supporting local producers seems to be at the heart of what you do and do very well. How do you go about sourcing the local ingredients for your meal boxes and why is this so important to you?

Chris - WA has an abundance of amazing fresh produce. It also has thousands of small, passionate family producers of great products. We love supporting them and our customers can enjoy their love for what they make and enjoy less food miles as a bonus!

Mette - That’s a wonderful approach. Apart from being locally grown or made, what do you look for in products to include in your meal boxes and in the Dinner Twist Marketplace? What is important to you, when introducing new products to your customers?

Chris - Once we are happy with how it’s made and the ingredients, the care and passion for the product is the big tick for us. Most often, we also get to know the passionate people behind the product. We love how we can bring a product sold in a remote farmers market and make it available to most of WA via our Marketplace.

Mette - I am so glad you feel that way because Dinner Twist has been a wonderful partner for Mette is Baking! Which leads me to how did you first discover Mette is Baking Nordic crackers and what made you decide to include them in your Marketplace?

Chris - Many years ago, when you had just started out, we found them in a local food shop, gave them a try and were instantly hooked!

Mette - I am so glad you found my crackers all those years ago! I have to ask, how do you think our Nordic crackers compare to other similar products you’ve used before? What do you think sets our crackers apart from others on the market and how do you believe our crackers contribute overall to Dinner Twist’s product offering?

Chris - Mette is Baking crackers are well inline with the food choices we make at Dinner Twist. Clean, local and delicious!

Mette - What do you and your family like to pair with our Nordic crackers?

Chris - We love Mette’s Nordic crackers with dips, on a cheese board - or just as is! The kids love them with a good quality crunchy peanut butter!

Mette - Do you have a recipe you could share with our readers that incorporates our crackers that they could try at home?

Chris - This is one of our favourite recipes! Creamy oven baked brie, topped with blueberry jam, paired with Mette is Baking’s Nordic crackers, pear and pecans.

Creamy Oven Baked Brie, Topped with Blueberry Jam

INGREDIENTS

Brie Cheese
Rosemary Sprigs
1 - 2 tbsps Blueberry Jam (or other)
Pear
60 - 80g Pecans
1 x Mette is Baking Traditional or Gluten-Free Nordic Crackers

METHOD
1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees celsius. Place brie in an oven proof dish. Trip a couple of short lengths of rosemary stalk (1 - 2 cms) and push into the brie. Bake in oven for 10 - 15 minutes or until cheese has softened.
2. Remove from the oven, top the baked brie with blueberry jam and serve with sliced pear, Mette is Baking Nordic Crackers and pecans.

Mette - That sounds delicious. I can just imagine the combination of sweet, savoury, salty and crunchy. I can’t wait to give that recipe a try! I’ll have to try it at my next gathering. Speaking of gatherings, dinner time can often be tricky, especially when we’re juggling work, kids and busy schedules. Finding a meal that pleases everyone can also be a challenge. To help inspire our readers, can you please share what your family’s favourite meals are from the Dinner Twist recipe selection?

Chris - As a family we love meals you can layer - a good protein and a good carb, with a heap of vegetables, salad, toppings, sauces and garnish. Everyone can then assemble their own plate at the table according to their own taste! Noodle bowls, San Choy Bau, Rice Poke Bowls, Laksa to a name a few!

Mette – A wonderful idea! I can’t imagine there would be too many complaints – everyone can build their own meal to suit their taste. Can you please tell us about the latest exciting developments at Dinner Twist and share your future plans for menu expansion, particularlyhow you envision incorporating more local products like our Nordic crackers?

Chris – There is always a pipeline of ideas! We just launched a new set of meals taking the tough economic climate into account. Recently, we also launched what we believe is a world first grocery shopping experience within WhatsApp. That aside, is the weekly creation of new meals and enjoying putting new treats out for the upcoming holidays. My and the recipe team are now busy compiling a massive Christmas offering with your crackers included of course.

Mette – That all sounds amazing, Chris – and as we both know too well a very busy time of year is quickly approaching! Thank you so much for sharing the Dinner Twist story with us. It’s always a pleasure working with you and seeing how Dinner Twist continues to grow. I’m excited to see what comes next!
